We invite scholars to contribute chapters to the edited volume Yugoslav Women Historians: Gender, Knowledge, and Profession in the Twentieth Century dedicated to the still underexplored history of women in the historical profession across the Yugoslav region.
Although women’s and gender history have become well-established fields within contemporary historiography, the history of women historians and their contributions to the development of historical scholarship in Serbia and the successor states of former Yugoslavia remains largely unexplored. From the first women who earned doctoral degrees in history during the first half of the twentieth century to the many historians who helped shape academic and scholarly life after the Second World War, this topic opens important questions about the relationship between gender, knowledge production, and the academic profession.
The volume aims to reconstruct the professional and intellectual biographies of Yugoslav women historians and to critically examine their role in the development of historiography throughout the twentieth century. While the volume welcomes biographical studies, its broader aim is to examine how gender shaped scholarly careers, professional opportunities, intellectual authority, and the production of historical knowledge within Yugoslav historiography.
We particularly encourage submissions that employ biographical, prosopographical, comparative, and interdisciplinary approaches and that contribute to a broader understanding of historiography from a gender perspective.
We welcome contributions addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
• intellectual biographies and professional trajectories of women historians;
• social and educational conditions that enabled women’s entry into the historical profession, as well as their specific social and cultural capital;
• institutional barriers and professionalization;
• gender relations within academia and scholarly institutions;
• research interests, methodologies, and scholarly contributions of women historians;
• women historians and feminist epistemology;
• distinctive characteristics of the scholarly persona of prominent women historians;
• the “feminization” and “demasculinization” of the historical profession;
• women who, although not formally trained as historians, made significant contributions to historical research and historical culture;
• women historians and knowledge-producing institutions;
• comparative perspectives within Yugoslav, European, and global contexts;
• women historians in transnational scholarly networks;
• historiography, memory, and public engagement.
We look forward to receiving your proposals and to collaborating on this collective effort to advance the study of gender, knowledge production, and historiography in the Yugoslav region.

Submission Procedure:
Abstracts (300–500 words), accompanied by a title, should be submitted by October 15, 2026. Full chapters should be submitted by June 30, 2027. Chapters should not exceed 50,000 characters (including spaces). Contributors should follow the citation style prescribed by Tokovi istorije / Currents of History. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their submission no later than October 31, 2026.

Pozivamo istraživače da dostave svoje priloge za zbornik „Jugoslovenske istoričarke: rod, znanje i profesija u dvadesetom veku“, posvećen još uvek nedovoljno istraženoj istoriji žena u istoriografskoj profesiji na prostoru bivše Jugoslavije.
Iako su istorija žena i rodna istorija postale dobro utemeljene oblasti savremene istoriografije, istorija istoričarki i njihov doprinos razvoju istorijske nauke u Srbiji i državama nastalim raspadom Jugoslavije i dalje su u velikoj meri neistraženi. Od prvih žena koje su stekle doktorske titule iz istorije tokom prve polovine dvadesetog veka do brojnih istoričarki koje su nakon Drugog svetskog rata oblikovale akademski i naučni život, ova tema otvara važna pitanja o odnosu roda, proizvodnje znanja i akademske profesije.
Cilj zbornika je rekonstrukcija profesionalnih i intelektualnih biografija jugoslovenskih istoričarki, kao i kritičko preispitivanje njihove uloge u razvoju istoriografije tokom dvadesetog veka. Iako su biografske studije dobrodošle, širi cilj zbornika jeste da ispita na koji je način rod uticao na naučne karijere, profesionalne mogućnosti, intelektualni autoritet i proizvodnju istorijskog znanja u okviru jugoslovenske istoriografije.
Posebno podstičemo radove koji koriste biografske, prosopografske, komparativne i interdisciplinarne pristupe i koji doprinose širem razumevanju istoriografije iz rodne perspektive.
Pozivamo autore da dostave radove koji se bave, ali nisu ograničeni na, sledeće teme:
- intelektualne biografije i profesionalni putevi istoričarki;
- društveni i obrazovni uslovi koji su omogućili ulazak žena u istoriografsku profesiju, kao i njihov specifičan društveni i kulturni kapital;
- institucionalne prepreke i procesi profesionalizacije;
- rodni odnosi u akademskim i naučnim institucijama;
- istraživačka interesovanja, metodologije i naučni doprinosi istoričarki;
- istoričarke i feministička epistemologija;
- osobenosti naučne ličnosti istaknutih istoričarki;
- „feminizacija“ i „demaskulinizacija“ istoriografske profesije;
- žene koje, iako nisu formalno obrazovane kao istoričarke, daju značajan doprinos istorijskim istraživanjima i istorijskoj kulturi;
- istoričarke i institucije koje proizvode znanje;
- komparativne perspektive u jugoslovenskom, evropskom i globalnom kontekstu;
- istoričarke u transnacionalnim naučnim mrežama;
- istoriografija, sećanje i javno delovanje.
Radujemo se vašim predlozima i saradnji na ovom zajedničkom poduhvatu usmerenom ka unapređenju proučavanja roda, proizvodnje znanja i istoriografije na bivšem jugoslovenskom prostoru.

Postupak prijave:
Apstrakti obima od 300 do 500 reči, uz naslov rada, treba da budu dostavljeni najkasnije do 15. oktobra 2026. godine. Kompletna poglavlja treba dostaviti do 30. juna 2027. godine. Obim poglavlja ne sme prelaziti 50.000 karaktera (sa razmacima). Autori treba da se pridržavaju citatnog stila koji propisuje časopis Tokovi istorije / Currents of History. Information for authors | Currents of History Detaljna uputstva za autore dostupna su na internet stranici časopisa. Podnosioci prijava biće obavešteni o ishodu svog predloga najkasnije do 31. oktobra 2026. godine.
