The workshop is funded by TRACTS COST Action (CA20134): Traces as Research Agenda for Climate Change, Technology Studies, and Social Justice.

The workshop will gather early to mid-career researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds to present and discuss ongoing work on the materiality and heritage of modern warfare and social struggles in socialist Europe.

  • How do people make sense of wartime remains in today’s societies?
  • How do heritage professionals mediate traces of war in community-based projects?
  • How do contemporary debates such as epistemic decolonization, new authoritarianisms and nationalisms influence the relationship between heritage professionals and communities?

Send abstracts (max 250 words) by June 30, 2022:;
