Call for Papers for Crossroads Series, Volume II: Movements

We invite submissions for the second volume of the international and interdisciplinary book series Crossroads, published by the Institute of Philosophy in Zagreb, Croatia. The forthcoming volume, titled Movements, will examine the historical and contemporary dimensions of social, political, intellectual, cultural, and other forms of movements, with a particular emphasis on perspectives rooted in social philosophy. Scholars interested in contributing are invited to submit an abstract by 31 December 2025. Submissions should be written in English, and if accepted, the full paper (max. 8,000 words, including references) must follow the Harvard author–date referencing system and will undergo double-blind peer review. Theme of the Volume: Movements

This volume investigates movements as social, intellectual, political, cultural, and historical phenomena. We seek contributions that explore movements as forces of social change, catalysts of identity and value formation, or agents of philosophical, ideological, or political transformation.

Suggested Topics (non-exhaustive)

  • Movements through the lens of social philosophy
  • Intellectual and cultural movements in history
  • Grassroots activism, collective action, and civil resistance
  • Ideological movements and their philosophical foundations
  • Digital-era movements, online mobilization, and networked activism
  • Movements and identity, nationalism, religion, and globalization
  • Methodological and theoretical approaches to studying movements

Interdisciplinary approaches are strongly encouraged.

Types of Contributions

We welcome the submission of:

  1. Original Research Papers
Manuscripts should present original scholarly research, offering new historical and theoretical insights, analytical interpretations, or empirically grounded findings relevant to the theme of movements.
  2. Review Papers
We also encourage the submission of review articles that synthesize existing literature, assess the state of research on a particular movement or theoretical approach, and provide critical and historical overviews useful to both specialists and a broader audience.

Both types of contributions must meet the academic standards outlined in the submission guidelines and will be subject to peer review. The intended audience includes both academic and general readers, so contributions should be written in a clear and accessible style while maintaining scholarly rigor.

Student & Early-Career Scholars’ Section: Book Reviews

In addition to regular contributions, this volume will include a dedicated Student and Doctoral Section. We invite MA students, PhD candidates, and early-career researchers to submit book reviews of recent publications (published within the last 5–7 years) that relate to the theme of movements in philosophy, history, political theory, sociology, anthropology, or related fields.

Book reviews should be 1,500–2,500 words, follow the Harvard author–date system, and provide a concise yet critical engagement with the chosen publication.

This section aims to support the development of young scholars by encouraging engagement with contemporary research, improving academic writing skills, and strengthening participation in international scholarly dialogue. By opening space for junior authors, the volume seeks to contribute to the capacity-building of emerging researchers, foster academic mentorship, and enhance the overall visibility and circulation of scientific output in the humanities and social sciences.
