Knjiga se bavi jedinstvenim povijesnim izvorom relevantnim za istarsku srednjovjekovnu povijest, katalogom prava akvilejskih patrijarha u Istri. Budući da je dokument izvorno nedatiran, bilo je mnogih pokušaja da se katalog kronološki smjesti i shodno interpretira. Na temelju opsežnih arhivskih istraživanja, autor je uspio ponuditi novu dataciju dokumenta, uvjerljivo pokazujući da je bio sastavljen u kancelariji akvilejskog patrijarha Rajmunda della Torrea u listopadu 1280. godine. Dokument se potom raščlanjuje unutar tog novog kronološkog okvira na temelju metodoloških smjernica Cambridgeove škole kontekstualizma. Tour de force istarske srednjovjekovne povijesti, knjiga pruža gusto anotiran prikaz burnog razdoblja u kojem se viša snaga sukobljavalo za premoć nad istarskim poluotokom.
Dr. sc. Josip Banić (Pula, 4. kolovoza, 1989.), je profesionalni medievist koji se bavi političkom i društvenom poviješću sjevernojadranske regije u razvijenom i kasnom srednjem vijeku. Doktorsku disertaciju obranio je pri Srednjoeuropskom sveučilištu u Budimpešti–Beču te objavio niz znanstvenih radova na temu srednjovjekovne povijesti Istre. Idejni je začetnik i glavni istraživač na projektu Fontes Istrie medievalis.
The book deals with a singular primary source relevant to Istrian medieval history, the catalogue of rights of the patriarchs of Aquileia in Istria. Since the document is originally undated, there were numerous attempts at chronologically framing and interpreting the catalogue. Based on extensive archival research, the author has managed to offer a new dating of the document, convincingly demonstrating that it was drawn up in the chancellery of the Aquileian patriarch Raymond della Torre in October of 1280. The document is then analyzed within this new chronological framework based on the methodological principles of the Cambridge School of contextualism. A tour de force of Istrian medieval history, the book offers a thickly annotated account of a tumultuous period in which multiple forces clashed for the supremacy over the Istrian peninsula.
Josip Banić, PhD (Pula, August 4, 1989) is a professional medievalist dealing with the political and social history of the northern Adriatic region in the High and Late Middle Ages. He received his PhD from the Central European University in Budapest–Vienna and published a number of scientific papers on the medieval history of Istria. He is the progenitor and the lead researcher of the project Fontes Istrie medievalis.
