CfP: Faces of Populism: Politics, Culture, Economy and Everyday Life in Eastern Europe (Belgrade, 5-6 April 2022)
Faculty of Philosophy University of Belgrade, Center for Cooperation with the EU
Scientific Society for the History of Health Culture
Populism in Central-Eastern Europe and South-Eastern Europe has been framed through theoretical ideas and expectations based on West European experience. However, the regions’ experience of populist politics has diverged from these experiences in many ways. The COVID-19 pandemics made this situation additionally complicated. Therefore, it is important to elaborate on how some of the universal indicators of populism transform within Eastern European historical, societal, economic, and political contexts. The main aim of the conference is to gather scholars that are researching different aspects and manifestations of populism in the Eastern European region.
Discussions at the conference will focus on the following topics:
1. The Historical Context(s) of the Populism
2. The (Sub)Cultural Context(s) of the Populism
3. Economic Aspects of Populist Political Discourses and Practices
4. Patriarchy, Misogyny and Homophobia in Populist Discourses
5. The Misuse of Education in Populist Politics
6. Anti-Semitism and Populism
7. The role of Media in Populist Political Strategies
