Poziv za prijavu – Jugoslovenski komunizam u međuratnom periodu: Naučni skup povodom 130 godina od rođenja Vladimira Ćopića (30. april – 1. maj 2021.)
Ove godine se navršava 130 godina od rođenja jugoslovenskog komuniste i španskog borca Vladimira Ćopića. Rođen u Senju u mešanoj hrvatsko-srpskoj porodici, Ćopić je postao komunista tokom Ruske revolucije, čiji je bio neposredni učesnik. Po povratku u novoosnovanu Kraljevinu SHS, bio je prvi organizacioni sekretar Komunističke partije Jugoslavije (KPJ) i jedan od njenih najistaknutijih članova. Od 1932. do 1936. godine bio je član najvišeg partijskog rukovodstva, a potom je otišao u Španiju, gde je bio komandant XV Internacionalne brigade. U jesen 1938. godine vratio se u Moskvu, gde je zajedno sa Titom trebao preuzeti vođstvo nad partijom. Međutim, uhapsio ga je NKVD i streljan je na osnovu lažnih optužbi 19. aprila 1939. godine.
Vladimir Ćopić je bio jedna od najvažnijih ličnosti u prvih dvadeset godina postojanja jugoslovenskog komunističkog pokreta. Zbog njegovog značaja za Hrvatsko primorje, odlučili smo da godišnjica njegovog rođenja komemoriramo upravo na Sveučilištu u Rijeci. Ova konferencija biće prilika da se iznova osvrnemo ne samo na njegov lik i delo, nego i na celokupnu predratnu istoriju KPJ, koja je često nepravedno zapostavljana zarad NOB-a i socijalističke Jugoslavije. S obzirom da u poslednjih nekoliko godina vidimo porast interesa za KPJ pre 1941. godine, ova konferencija biće prilika da se istoričarke i istoričari koji se bave tom tematikom okupe i razmene svoje znanje. Pozivamo vas da pošaljete priloge o istoriji predratne KPJ, sa posebnim naglaskom na sindikalno pitanje, nacionalno pitanje i ženski pokret, položaj partije u i veze sa međunarodnim radničkim pokretom, kao i na radove koji povezuju međuratni period sa procesima dugog trajanja. Rezime od maksimum 500 reči sa kratkom biografijom možete poslati na guzvica_stefan@alumni.ceu.edu i vjeran.pavlakovic@uniri.hr najkasnije do 20. februara 2021. Obaveštenje o uspešnoj prijavi biće poslano najkasnije do 1. marta.
Konferencija će se održati 30. aprila i 1. maja. Radni jezici konferencije su srpskohrvatski i engleski. Zbog pandemije koronavirusa i ograničenja putovanja, postoji mogućnost uključivanja preko Zooma. Organizatori mogu, na zahtev učesnika, organizovati smeštaj i pokriti troškove boravka u Rijeci.
Yugoslav Communism in the Interwar Period: A Conference Marking the 130th Anniversary of the Birth of Vladimir Ćopić
April 30 – May 1, 2021
This year marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of the Yugoslav communist and Spanish Civil War volunteer, Vladimir Ćopić. Born in Senj to a mixed Serbo-Croat family, Ćopić became a communist during the Russian Revolution, of which he was a direct participant. Upon his return to the newly-founded Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, he was the first organizational secretary of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ), and one of its most prominent members. From 1932 until 1936, he was a member of the party leadership, and then he went to Spain, where he commanded the 15th International Brigade. In the fall of 1938 he returned to Moscow, where he was supposed to take over the party leadership together with Tito. However, he was arrested by the NKVD and shot on false charges on April 19, 1939.
Vladimir Ćopić was one of the most significant personalities in the first two decades of the Yugoslav communist movement. Because of his importance for the Croatian Littoral, we have decided to commemorate his anniversary precisely at the University of Rijeka. This conference will be an opportunity not only for a reassessment of his life and work, but also of the entire pre-war history of the KPJ, which has often been unjustly neglected due to a focus on the history of World War II and socialist Yugoslavia. Considering that the previous couple of years have seen a rise in interest for the KPJ before 1941, this conference will be an opportunity for historians of this topic to gather and exchange their knowledge. We invite you to send abstracts on the topic, with a special emphasis on trade unionism, the national question, the women’s movement, the party’s position in the international labor movement, as well as works which connect the interwar period with longue durée processes. Please send an abstract of a maximum of 500 words with a short CV to guzvica_stefan@alumni.ceu.edu i vjeran.pavlakovic@uniri.hr until February 20, 2021. Notification of acceptance will be sent at the latest by March 1.
The conference will take place on April 30 and May 1. The working languages of the conference are Serbo-Croatian and English. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and travel limitations, there is a possibility of participation via Zoom. The organizers can, per participants’ request, arrange and pay for the accommodation in Rijeka.
