Description:
This lecture will tell the story of Bulgarian architecture from the second half of the 20th century through the lens of the clash between local and global. Taming of alternatives and the deliberate lack of extremes has both saved and doomed Bulgarian architecture (and culture, for that matter). It has preserved it from dramatic totalitarian gestures, but has deprived it from heroic greatness as well.
