The study examines an over hundred-year-old history of prejudice – the invention, dissemination, and effects of the notion that homosexuals formed influential political cliques, often with multiple nefarious effects, up to and including betrayal and high treason. This cultural history of homophobia focuses on the German-speaking areas, but the issue is also pertinent to other nations and societies.
