Was the Holodomor a Genocide? Debate via Zoom-Webinar, September 24, 18:00 h

Among the mass crimes committed by the 20th century’s totalitarian regimes, the Holodomor in Soviet Ukraine undeniably holds a special place. If it was genocidal in character remains an open question which the German-Ukrainian Historical Commission wants to explore. At our webinar, three leading experts in the field, Andrea Graziosi (Rome), Georgiy Kasianov (Kyiv) and Daria Mattingly (Cambridge), will debate this and other questions surrounding the great famine. The debate will be chaired by both Speakers of the German-Ukrainian Historical Commission, Martin Schulze Wessel (Munich) and Yaroslav Hrytsak (Lviv). A recording of the Webinar will be published, entering via Zoom-link will be considered as consent to publication.

Programm

The participants will present short opening statements which will serve as a basis for further discussion. At the end of the debate, viewers/listeners will be able to submit questions per chat.
