Das Buch bietet eine Kultur- und Sozialgeschichte des Kinos in den Balkanl\u00e4ndern von seinen Anf\u00e4ngen bis zum Aufstieg des Fernsehens in den fr\u00fchen 1970er-Jahren. \u201eHollywood auf dem Balkan\u201c bezieht sich auf den Umstand, dass das Filmgesch\u00e4ft von ausl\u00e4ndischen Produktionsfirmen, in erster Linie jedoch von Hollywoodproduktionen, bestimmt wurde, da es in den ersten Jahrzehnten des Films kaum Eigenproduktionen gab. Das Buch zeigt, dass das Kino bis zur Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts ein beinahe ausschlie\u00dflich st\u00e4dtisches Ph\u00e4nomen darstellte und von der muslimischen Bev\u00f6lkerung weitgehend gemieden wurde. Der Aufstieg des Kinos zu einem visuellen Massenvergn\u00fcgen erfolgte erst in den 1960er-Jahren, als sich auch in den Balkanl\u00e4ndern eine Filmindustrie entfalten konnte.<\/p>\n
