Workshop for The Oxford Handbook of the Axis Powers

At the height of their power in mid-1942, the Axis of Berlin, Rome and Tokyo ruled over much of Europe, North Africa and the Asia-Pacific. The alliance was far more than a military coalition. It grew out of intensifying interaction between the three countries from the 1930s onwards and stood for an ideologically grounded alternative to both the liberal-capitalist and the communist model. Long dismissed as an alliance in name only, it is now being reassessed, not least because fascism is no longer read as a European product but as a global phenomenon of the interwar years.

Public Roundtable: The Axis and Global Fascism
Wednesday, 28 October 2026, 5.15–6.45 pm, Room 5.55, ReCentGlobe, Leipzig University, and online with António Costa Pinto (ICS, Universidade de Lisboa), Constantin Iordachi (Central European University) and Daniel Hedinger (Leipzig University).
