Globalisierung ist kein anonymer Prozess, der hinter dem R\u00fccken der Akteure stattfindet. Dieser Band betrachtet die Bem\u00fchungen in Frankreich und seinem weitgespannten Empire seit dem 16. Jahrhundert, den jeweils relevanten Teil der Welt so zu erschlie\u00dfen und zu ordnen, wie es den jeweiligen Interessen entsprach. Diese Perspektive \u00f6ffnet einen neuen Blick auf die franz\u00f6sische Geschichte und ihre vielf\u00e4ltigen globalen Verflechtungen. Das franz\u00f6sische Globalisierungsprojekt stand immer in Konkurrenz zu anderen und rang um Deutungshoheit und Machtanteile. Es konnte sich nie vollst\u00e4ndig durchsetzen, wurde aber immer wieder an neue Bedingungen angepasst. Dies l\u00e4sst sich in der Wirtschafts- und Technologiegeschichte ebenso wie in der politischen und Kolonialgeschichte sowie der Kultur- und Ideengeschichte beobachten.
