In the framework of History, Memory and Politics in Central and Eastern Europe lecture series<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cMaking of the Socialist Man\u201d is the title of a three-year research project, financed by the Croatian Science Foundation, with the focus on the endeavours of Yugoslav authorities in making of a new socialist citizen. He or she was first placed in a strongly Soviet-oriented society, but the situation very soon shifted towards a different kind of Yugoslav socialism. Since 2014 the team of eleven historians, anthropologists, musicologists, culturologists and linguists has been analysing the socialist man in a variety of appearances: from childhood to retirement, in work and leisure or sport, as a creator and a recipient of culture, from the theoretical ideals of high politics to the successful or problematic practices. The lecture will present two of twelve research topics in more detail: the pioneer organization and the ideologization of childhood, as well as consumer protection in the system of self-management and associated labour.<\/p>\n
