East-West political, diplomatic and economic co-operation during the Twentieth Century, 27 June, Cambridge University, UK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are soliciting papers for a workshop hosted at Hometon College, Cambridge University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event seeks to bring together researchers and former\/current diplomats interested in East-West co-operation during the Twentieth Century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop will facilitate academic discussions regarding inter-state co-operation through various channels but focusing on key mechanisms such as high-level meetings between state leaders, special envoys, and trade agreements, with a particular focus on the Cold War era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, the event aims to explore how historical insights can inform and enhance contemporary policy-making, especially by assessing the effectiveness of summit diplomacy in achieving both geopolitical and economic goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the workshop seeks to establish a valuable academic and non-academic network, fostering future research and publication opportunities. Homerton College at Cambridge University will serve as the ideal venue to facilitate knowledge exchange among the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We welcome applications from a wide range of social and historical sciences, as long as the papers take a historical approach and investigate East-West co-operation, broadly defined. This includes, but is not limited to, fields such as history, international relations, political science, political economy, and diplomatic studies. We especially encourage early-career scholars to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food and drinks will be provided during the day. There will be limited funding available to help cover travelling costs for individuals without institutional support. If you require assistance to attend, please mention it in your application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the conclusion of the workshop, a briefing note will be produced, summarising key discussion points and feedback from participants, who will be invited to publish their papers in a special journal issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
