The research is part of the ERC Starting Grant project BENASTA (Becoming National against the State: Popular discontent and adherence to minority nationalisms in late nineteenth-century Eastern Europe, <a href=\"https:\/\/democracyinstitute.ceu.edu\/projects\/becoming-national-against-state-popular-discontent-and-adherence-minority-nationalisms\">https:\/\/democracyinstitute.ceu.edu\/projects\/becoming-national-against-state-popular-discontent-and-adherence-minority-nationalisms<\/a>). The project aims at investigating popular reactions to minority national movements in East-Central Europe in the half century before the First World War, led by Agoston Berecz (<a href=\"https:\/\/democracyinstitute.ceu.edu\/people\/agoston-berecz\">https:\/\/democracyinstitute.ceu.edu\/people\/agoston-berecz<\/a>). Female researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Main tasks<br>&#8211; Archival research in Trieste, Koper, Pazin, Gorizia and Rijeka.<br>&#8211; Research of contemporary newspapers.<br>&#8211; Writing at least two articles based on your research for leading international journals.<br>&#8211; Collaborating on the monograph arising from the project.<br>&#8211; Active participation at the online project meetings (biweekly) and onsite workshops (every four months in Budapest).<br>&#8211; Participation at international conferences, individually and as part of the team.<br>&#8211; Contributions to the project website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qualifications and skills<br>&#8211; PhD in history, sociology or Gender Studies.<br>&#8211; Previous research activities, preferably including the late Habsburg Empire.<br>&#8211; Strong writing and presentation skills in English.<br>&#8211; At least a good passive knowledge of Slovene\/Croatian, German and Italian.<br>&#8211; Experience in reading Kurrentschrift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What we offer<br>We offer competitive remuneration as well as a dynamic and international academic environment.
