The seminar will bring together 20 students who will have the chance to discuss and learn about the concepts of the Danube region and the Danube&#8217;s integrative power for politics, economy and culture. We consider the Danube region as a cultural-spatial unit characterized by a strong cultural, political and economic heterogeneity. The thematic focus of the seminar is on the Danube ports, which, with their infrastructures such as quays and warehouses, social spaces such as residential and administrative buildings, ways of life, etc., make visible the economic, technical and political characteristics of the Danube region. They can provide fascinating insights into the cultural aspects and interactions of travelers, dockworkers, and other actors in the various port cities. The seminar will give students the opportunity to reflect on the similarities and differences of port cities along the Danube. During and after the seminar, students will be asked to write their own texts about the history of ports, technical developments and actors involved in port activities and publish them on the project website. Suitable topics include architectural objects, emigration from Western Europe to Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, crises and transformations, transport of knowledge and goods, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seminar is aimed at BA and MA students in the humanities and social sciences, especially history, cultural studies, political science, literary studies and related disciplines.
