While the seemingly straightforward adjective \u201cpost-Yugoslav\u201d has been popular across disciplines since the 1990s, what exactly it is that makes something \u201cpost-Yugoslav\u201d has been far from undisputedly determined. Due to lose ends at its definitional core, the \u201cpost-Yugoslav\u201d conceptual framework has recently been critically (and occasionally heatedly) reexamined. Exploring the applicability of the rubric of \u201cpost-Yugoslav literature\u201d in the context of queer fiction, this presentation explores the complex entanglement between politics and history and non-normative sexuality and gender in several contemporary texts. The presentation will argue that the designation of \u201cpost-Yugoslav queer literature\u201d provides the indispensable conceptual framework for understanding the ways in which queer fiction takes up and transforms ostracized socialist and transitional era cultural objects and values into sources of personal and political remedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
