Predmet: priop\u0107enje za javnost povodom potpore hrvatskih studenata i profesora sveu\u010dili\u0161tu<\/strong><\/p>\n

Central European University u Budimpe\u0161ti<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

U srijedu, 28. o\u017eujka 2017., ma\u0111arska je vlada predlo\u017eila amandmane Nacionalnog zakona<\/p>\n

o visokom \u0161kolstvu koji su u\u0161li u hitnu proceduru parlamentarne rasprave (za ponedjeljak 3.<\/p>\n

travnja) kako bi isti bili \u0161to prije izglasani (ve\u0107 u utorak 4. travnja). Njime bi se od sljede\u0107e<\/p>\n

godine me\u0111unarodnom sveu\u010dili\u0161tu Central European University (dalje CEU) u Budimpe\u0161ti<\/p>\n

onemogu\u0107io daljnji rad jer ono ne bi moglo ispunjavati nove tra\u017eene uvjete za koje postoji<\/p>\n

opravdana sumnja da su direktno usmjereni protiv opstanka ovog i drugih me\u0111unarodnih<\/p>\n

sveu\u010dili\u0161ta na teritoriju Republike Ma\u0111arske.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Malobrojni doma\u0107i mediji (Index.hr, narod.hr, advance.hr) koji su popratili ovu vijest<\/p>\n

uglavnom su se usredoto\u010dili na \u010dinjenicu da je sveu\u010dili\u0161te 1991. godine osnovao ameri\u010dki<\/p>\n

milijarder ma\u0111arskog podrijetla George Soros te da je sveu\u010dili\u0161te kolateralna \u017ertva napada<\/p>\n

ma\u0111arskog premijera Viktora Orbana na Sorosa, odnosno da se radi o srazu dviju<\/p>\n

suprotstavljenih politi\u010dkih ideologija. U svemu tome potpuno se zaboravlja – ili se nedostatno<\/p>\n

govori – o samome sveu\u010dili\u0161tu, kao i o tome \u0161to bi ne samo Republika Ma\u0111arska, nego i<\/p>\n

cijela srednjoisto\u010dna Europa kao i brojni znanstvenici u svijetu koji se bave ovom regijom<\/p>\n

izgubili njegovim ga\u0161enjem.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

CEU je najbolje svjetski rangirano sveu\u010dili\u0161te srednjoisto\u010dne Europe u disciplinama koje<\/p>\n

pokriva (dru\u0161tvene i humanisti\u010dke znanosti). Na njemu su se obrazovali ili predavali brojni<\/p>\n

znanstvenici, gospodarstvenici, politi\u010dari i razne struke iz Hrvatske i drugih zemalja, tj. \u010ditava<\/p>\n

plejada ljudi razli\u010ditih nacionalnosti, religija i politi\u010dkih uvjerenja (npr. sam glasnogovornik<\/p>\n

trenutno vladaju\u0107e Fidesz stranke, Zoltan Kovacs, na CEU-u je doktorirao 2002. godine, a<\/p>\n

od hrvatskih znanstvenika, primjerice, prof. dr. sc. Ivo Banac ondje je dr\u017eao Katedru za<\/p>\n

jugoisto\u010dnu Europu od 1994. do 1999. godine).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Glavna je zna\u010dajka CEU-a oduvijek bila akademska sloboda, potom akademska izvrsnost te<\/p>\n

poticanje pluralizma. Na\u010dela njegove misije izrijekom uklju\u010duju \u201ctraganje za istinom u kojem<\/p>\n

god ona smjeru vodila, po\u0161tivanje razli\u010ditosti kultura i naroda, te predanost da se razlike [u<\/p>\n

mi\u0161ljenju] rje\u0161avaju debatom, a ne poricanjem\u201d. Budu\u0107i da ove vrijednosti zajedno s visokim<\/p>\n

znanstveno-istra\u017eiva\u010dkim kriterijima nisu samo nominalno proklamirane na CEU-u, ve\u0107 su i u<\/p>\n

potpunosti provo\u0111ene u praksi, oko 150 hrvatskih studenata, sada\u0161njih i biv\u0161ih, profesora,<\/p>\n

korisnika CEU istra\u017eiva\u010dke infrastrukture (iznimno bogate knji\u017enice), projektnih suradnika te<\/p>\n

ostalih simpatizera sastavilo je zajedni\u010dko pismo u kojem daju bezuvjetnu potporu ostanku<\/p>\n

CEU-a u Budimpe\u0161ti i koje su naslovili na ma\u0111arskog ministra za ljudske kapacitete Zolt\u00e1na<\/p>\n

Baloga, ured premijera Viktora Orbana, ma\u0111arsko i ameri\u010dko veleposlanstvo u Zagrebu,<\/p>\n

Europsku komisiju i Europski parlament.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Na ovaj na\u010din \u017eelimo pozvati medije da prika\u017eu i na\u0161u stranu pri\u010de o CEU-u i o zna\u010denju<\/p>\n

koje ono ima za hrvatske znanstvenike i stru\u010dnjake koji su ondje pro\u0161li znanstvenu formaciju.<\/p>\n

U ovom na\u0161em nastojanju pozvali bismo i cijelu hrvatsku akademsku zajednicu da nam se<\/p>\n

pridru\u017ei u davanju potpore opstanku ove jedinstvene institucije koja je kao malo koja druga<\/p>\n

uvijek bila spremna dati priliku i sura\u0111ivati s hrvatskim kandidatima, znanstvenicima i ostalim<\/p>\n

stru\u010dnjacima na podru\u010dju dru\u0161tvenih i humanisti\u010dkih znanosti.<\/p>\n

Dear Madam\/Sir,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are Croatian citizens, alumni and alumnae, professors and students of CEU, working in more than 20 academic institutions as well as across the civil and business sector in Croatia and abroad. We are writing to express solidarity with the Central European University and concern at proposed legislative changes to CEU\u2019s status in Hungary. These changes would endanger the academic freedom vital for CEU\u2019s continued operation in Budapest and would strike a blow against the academic freedom that enables all universities, including those in Hungary, to flourish.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

CEU has played an enormous role in our lives and careers. It offered educational opportunities that exceeded those available in our own country \u2014 from well-equipped libraries to seminars and lectures taught by world-leading scholars. For us, CEU was and is the beacon of the humanistic tradition of liberal education. But its importance went beyond academic excellence; what mattered the most was its open and pluralistic academic and social approach. Our political affiliation, nationality, race or religion never had an impact on our treatment as students and colleagues; indeed we are of different nationalities and politically situated alongside the entire spectrum. The influence that CEU has exercised on academic and social life in all the post-communist countries is incomparable to any other academic institution.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But CEU also meant more than a place of study. We lived in Budapest for months or years. We have created strong connections not just with international students and staff at CEU but with Hungarians as well, from academics to those not affiliated with CEU or any other university. Some of us learnt or tried to learn Hungarian language. CEU may have meant more for Croatian-Hungarian academic (and much broader) relations than any other institution in recent history.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We respectfully urge the Government to withdraw the proposed legislative changes and enter consultations with CEU, bearing in mind the damage such legislation might cause to Hungary\u2019s international academic reputation and to its standing within the international community of nations. <\/em><\/p>\n
