In this context and starting from the generally accepted idea that Russia was historically a important player in the Balkans, the volume will try to address the questions: How the Russia’s attitude toward the region changed over the last three centuries in the context of relations between Russia and certain Western powers? What were and still are Russia’s interests in the Balkans? How have Balkan nations/countries and the other great-power competitors responded? Which were Russia’s allies/enemies/competitors in the Balkans?

The Balkan History Association is preparing a volume that aims to provide a better understanding on how Russia has wielded influence in the Balkans during the last three centuries. Our intentions are to see beyond the Russian-Ottoman wars and bilateral relations and to encourage new perspectives and seek new sources on every issue relating to the volume theme: military, diplomatic, intelligence, cultural, economic, and religion. We encourage paper proposals from young researchers, doctoral students, established scholars, and former practitioners.

Submission procedure

Original manuscripts should be prepared following the editorial guide of the publisher, available on their website, especially “Style Guidelines – British English” and “Submission Guidelines“.
