What were the key challenges facing Nicholas II and why was he unable to meet them, both in the domestic and international contexts. The lecture will explain how the effects of Russia’s involvement in the First World War firstly undermined all support for the monarchy and led to its sudden collapse in February 1917, and subsequently allowed the Bolsheviks to overthrow the Provisional Government so easily eight months later.

Professor Dominic Lieven

Professor Lieven is a Research Professor at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of the British Academy and of Trinity College, Cambridge.

Read more at https://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/the-february-revolution-in-russia

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[3

post-3118","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-novosti
https://i0.wp.com/historiografija.hr/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/2017-03-07_DominicLieven.jpg?fit=1920%2C660&ssl=1
A sweeping global history of the birth of modern Greece In 1821, a diverse territory in the southern Balkans on the fringe of the Ottoman Empire was thrust into a decade of astounding mass violence.
