{"id":29222,"date":"2022-01-14T19:25:47","date_gmt":"2022-01-14T19:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/historiografija.hr\/?p=29222"},"modified":"2022-01-14T19:25:47","modified_gmt":"2022-01-14T19:25:47","slug":"bb-ana-devic-from-the-omnibus-law-to-the-office-of-cultural-information-the-disappearing-autonomy-and-regionalism-in-vojvodina-since-2000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/historiografija.hr\/?p=29222","title":{"rendered":"BB: Ana Devi\u0107 &#8211; &#8220;From the &#8220;Omnibus&#8221; Law to the &#8220;Office of Cultural Information&#8221;: The (Disappearing) Autonomy and Regionalism in Vojvodina since 2000"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The presentation tests the thesis put forward by a number of Vojvodinian and Serbian analysts since the end of the 1980s: that the issue of the autonomy of Vojvodina (rather, a lack of it) is mirroring the (problems of) democratization of Serbia. The question is scrutinized through time periods: starting from the 1990s, moving to the fall of Slobodan Milo\u0161evi\u0107\u2019s regime and the subsequent changes in the Province\u2019s legislation (concessions and \u201chorse-trading\u201d with political parties in Serbia proper) that took place in the mid-to-late 2000s, and the period since the rule of the Serbian Progress Party in 2012 and an advanced stage of political oligarchization. Can it be argued that the very concept of autonomy has been wasted through a series of concessions that the \u201cautonomist\u201d political and civic actors in Vojvodina have made, hidden behind the general complaints about the threats to the special Vojvodinian \u201chistorical\u201d \u201cmulticultural identity?\u201d It will be shown that, despite such apparent grievances, the (multi-) cultural specifics of the province and its minorities\u2019 status have been also seriously jeopardized without organized opposition.
