{"id":28042,"date":"2021-11-02T10:25:02","date_gmt":"2021-11-02T10:25:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/historiografija.hr\/?p=28042"},"modified":"2021-11-02T10:25:02","modified_gmt":"2021-11-02T10:25:02","slug":"asn-webinar-religion-and-nationalism-in-comparative-perspective","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/historiografija.hr\/?p=28042","title":{"rendered":"ASN Webinar: Religion and Nationalism in Comparative Perspective"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Does religion motivate and intensify nationalism, or does it moderate and even suppress nationalism? \u015eener Akt\u00fcrk&#8217;s article <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/nationalities-papers\/article\/nationalism-and-religion-in-comparative-perspective-a-new-typology-of-nationalreligious-configurations\/7965D0CEC6C6A680007386D50D12B95E\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Nationalism and Religion in Comparative Perspective: A New Typology of National-Religious Configurations<\/a>&#8221;\u00a0develops a taxonomy of relations between nationalism and religion: nationalism as a modern religion; the idea of a \u201cChosen People\u201d; religious exclusion; religious influences on national policies; religious observance and national identification; and religiously-based \u201ccivilizations.\u201d Akt\u00fcrk argues that European Christian experience is not generalizable to the rest of the world due to the institutional autonomy and supranational organization of the Catholic Church. Also, European nationalisms were premised on religious sectarian homogeneity.
