Pri\u010da je to o pet generacija obitelji u francuskome selu i o razvoju njihove male, siroma\u0161ne farme u industrijaliziranu svinjogojsku farmu. \u00c9l\u00e9onore, k\u0107i hladne, nepristupa\u010dne majke i nasmrt bolesna oca, upoznajemo kao djevoj\u010dicu koja \u0107e stasaju\u0107i u \u017eenu upoznati u\u017ease Prvoga svjetskog rata te usprkos svim neda\u0107ama odr\u017eavati obiteljsko gospodarstvo, \u010dijem \u0107e slomu, tada ve\u0107 stara, zajedno sa svojim potomcima svjedo\u010diti.
