The debate will be held as a part of the ‘Genealogies of Memory’ project, which this year takes place within the Memory Studies Association (MSA) annual conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session will present two quite different points of views on the recent and present memory politics and memory policies in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ivan Krastev and Marek Cichocki, from either liberal, or conservative positions, will discuss the political aspects of memories, bringing in both, the EU\/European context, as well as the regional Central-East European perspective. They will discuss the challenges to transnational commemorations, the problem of nationalization of memories, the crises of democracy, and the current developments caused by the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of this will allow the audience to get acquainted with some of the important discursive contexts of the conference original locus, i.e., East-Central Europe \/ Warsaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session will be a duet of voices, with moderation by Ma\u0142gorzata Pakier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
