{"id":26454,"date":"2021-05-27T21:49:56","date_gmt":"2021-05-27T21:49:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/historiografija.hr\/?p=26454"},"modified":"2021-05-27T21:49:56","modified_gmt":"2021-05-27T21:49:56","slug":"semiotic-landscapes-of-southeastern-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/historiografija.hr\/?p=26454","title":{"rendered":"Semiotic Landscapes of Southeastern Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>May 28-29, 2021, Moise Palace, Cres and online<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Center for Advanced Studies of Southeastern Europe (CAS SEE) at University of Rijeka and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crossingborders.hu-berlin.de\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Berlin Centre for Transnational Border Research \u201cBorder Crossings \u2013 Crossing Borders\u201d at Humboldt University<\/a>&nbsp;are pleased to invite you to take part in the online sessions of the two-day conference \u201cSemiotic landscapes of Southeastern Europe\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CONFERENCE PROGRAM<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This rich program brings together researchers from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds working on the visual and semiotic aspects of everyday culture in Southeastern Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the presentations will show, studying the diversity of human meaning-making on public display allows for expedient insights into the&nbsp;<strong>fundamentals and frictions<\/strong>&nbsp;underlying visual manifestations of social patterns and political implications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having moved beyond its&nbsp;initial focus on writing and images in public space, the concept of semiotic landscapes neatly embraces the&nbsp;<strong>implications and intertextualities<\/strong> of human activities involved in the creation and shaping of space and place.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Verbal as well as nonverbal modes of engagement with the outer world create the&nbsp;<strong>realities and resignifications<\/strong>&nbsp;connected to and produced by a given semiotic landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any semiotic act affecting the landscape is in itself both a consequence of and a potential cause for political, cultural, economic and other&nbsp;<strong>challenges and changes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The diverse geographical and social premises of Southeastern Europe, where hegemonic as well as heretical discourses have been active in the politics of&nbsp;<strong>memory and meaning-making<\/strong>&nbsp;in (recent) history, provide a copious amount of perspectives and topics for researching the interconnection of the sign and public space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ABSTRACT BOOK<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference is organized into five sessions, please follow the links below to take part in these sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-cas-see\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"phXl4vz2F6\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cas.uniri.hr\/semiotic-landscapes-of-southeastern-europe\/\">Semiotic Landscapes of Southeastern Europe<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
