Marie-Janine Calic schreibt die Geschichte S\u00fcdosteuropas als Weltgeschichte und hinterfragt dabei die g\u00e4ngigen Stereotype \u00fcber die Region. Die Bewohner S\u00fcdosteuropas teilen viele gemeinsame Erfahrungen, und bis heute sind ihre Schicksale wechselseitig eng miteinander verkn\u00fcpft. Eine gemeinsame Identit\u00e4t sucht man dennoch vergeblich. Stattdessen hat sich hier eine einzigartige Vielfalt herausgebildet, die sich nicht zuletzt \u00fcberregionalen Bez\u00fcgen verdankt. Werden und Wandel S\u00fcdosteuropas von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart werden daher in diesem Buch nicht blo\u00df aus der Region selbst erkl\u00e4rt, sondern aus einer globalgeschichtlichen Perspektive neu betrachtet.
