The signing of the Treaty of Rapallo, the centenary of which falls this year, made it possible to find a solution to the Italian-Yugoslav dispute over the north-eastern Adriatic border, that would last \u2013 with the integration, in 1924, of the Treaty of Rome for Rijeka\/Fiume \u2013 substantially until the Italian invasion of the neighbouring kingdom alongside Germany and the other Axis allies. Relations between Italy and Yugoslavia, particularly since the end of the 1920s with the beginning of the more decidedly revisionist phase of fascist foreign policy regarding the structures of the Danubian-Balkan area, were never easy. However, the signing of the Treaty of Rapallo represented an undoubtedly important moment, which greatly contributed to restore a climate of collaboration between the two countries, heavily jeopardized by border nationalism \u2013 which had led to the burning of the Narodni Dom in Trieste, occurred only a few months earlier \u2013 and by the D\u2019Annunzio\u2019s \u201cimpresa di Fiume\u201d, interrupted precisely by the Treaty of Rapallo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The journal \u00abQualestoria\u00bb intends to dedicate a monographic issue, to be published in July 2021, to the Italian-Yugoslav relations in the interwar period, from 1920 to 1940. The aim of the volume will especially be to analyse the course of Italian foreign policy towards Yugoslavia and its impact on the political and social fabric of the upper Adriatic region also as regards the coexistence between the various communities in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To this end, proposals for contributions are requested which, taking into account the results of the most up-to-date historiography, deal in an original way with two major topics: the first relating to the political and diplomatic ties between Italy and Yugoslavia between the two World Wars and the second concerning the issue of \u201cminorities\u201d in the territories of the north-eastern Adriatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The articles may be written either in Italian or in English, but we underline that the authors shall remain solely responsible for the linguistic quality of their contributions (for example, any revision of a text not written in their mother tongue will be up to the authors) and that the editorial staff reserves the right to refuse a proposal on the sole basis of its linguistic level. All the contributions received will be subjected to a double-blind peer review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Interested authors are requested to send an abstract of their proposal (about 400 words), including indications on the primary sources and the methodological approaches they intend to use, together with a CV of a couple of pages. Abstracts must be sent, by 1st August 2020, to the following e-mail addresses: stefano.santoro1@gmail.com<\/a> and lucagiuseppe.manenti@gmail.com<\/a>, specifying in the object of the e-mail “Proposta per Qualestoria”. The authors of the accepted proposals will be notified by 1st October 2020 and will be invited to send their contribution (60,000 characters, spaces and notes included) by 15th January 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n La stipulazione del trattato di Rapallo, di cui quest\u2019anno ricorre il centenario, permise di trovare una soluzione al contenzioso italo-jugoslavo per il confine dell\u2019Adriatico nord-orientale, che avrebbe poi retto \u2013 con l\u2019integrazione del trattato di Roma del 1924 per Fiume \u2013 sostanzialmente fino all\u2019invasione italiana del vicino regno al fianco della Germania e degli alleati dell\u2019Asse. I rapporti fra Italia e Jugoslavia, in particolare dalla fine degli anni Venti con l\u2019avvio della fase pi\u00f9 decisamente revisionistica della politica estera fascista riguardo gli assetti dell\u2019area danubiano-balcanica, non furono mai facili. Tuttavia, la firma del trattato di Rapallo costitu\u00ec un momento indubbiamente importante, che contribu\u00ec non poco a ristabilire un clima di collaborazione fra i due paesi, pesantemente compromesso dal nazionalismo di confine \u2013 che aveva portato all\u2019incendio del Narodni Dom di Trieste, avvenuto solo pochi mesi prima \u2013 e dall\u2019impresa dannunziana di Fiume, cui proprio il trattato di Rapallo aveva messo fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n La rivista \u00abQualestoria\u00bb intende dedicare un numero monografico, che sar\u00e0 pubblicato nel luglio 2021, alle relazioni italo-jugoslave fra le due guerre mondiali, dal 1920 al 1940. Obiettivo del volume sar\u00e0 in particolare di analizzare le direttrici della politica estera italiana nei confronti della Jugoslavia e il loro impatto sul tessuto politico e sociale della regione alto-adriatica, anche al livello della convivenza tra le diverse comunit\u00e0 presenti sul territorio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A questo scopo, si sollecita l\u2019invio di proposte di contributi che, tenendo conto dei risultati della storiografia pi\u00f9 aggiornata, affrontino in modo originale soprattutto due grandi temi, il primo relativo ai rapporti politici e diplomatici fra l\u2019Italia e la Jugoslavia tra le due guerre, il secondo concernente la questione delle \u201cminoranze\u201d nei territori dell\u2019Adriatico nord-orientale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I saggi potranno essere redatti in italiano e in inglese, ma si sottolinea che gli autori saranno i soli responsabili della qualit\u00e0 linguistica del loro contributo (ad esempio, l\u2019eventuale revisione di un testo scritto non nella propria lingua materna spetter\u00e0 all\u2019autore) e che la redazione si riserva la facolt\u00e0 di rifiutare una proposta sulla sola base del suo livello linguistico.
