Le r\u00e9gime de Vichy est n\u00e9 de la d\u00e9faite brutale de juin\u00a01940 devant l\u2019Allemagne nazie. De juillet\u00a01940 \u00e0 ao\u00fbt\u00a01944, le nouvel \u00ab\u00a0\u00c9tat fran\u00e7ais\u00a0\u00bb a \u00e9t\u00e9 tributaire de l\u2019occupation partielle puis totale de la France. Cependant, cette dictature charismatique dont la l\u00e9gitimit\u00e9 reposait presque enti\u00e8rement sur le mar\u00e9chal P\u00e9tain\u00a0a tent\u00e9 d\u2019imposer, sans l\u2019intervention des occupants, un nouvel ordre politique, social et moral en rupture avec la R\u00e9publique, d\u00e9fendant le principe d\u2019une \u00ab\u00a0communaut\u00e9 nationale\u00a0\u00bb dont devaient \u00eatre exclus les \u00e9l\u00e9ments \u00ab\u00a0inassimilables\u00a0\u00bb (juifs, communistes, francs-ma\u00e7ons, \u00e9trangers). Il a par ailleurs fait le choix d\u2019une collaboration strat\u00e9gique avec le IIIe<\/sup>\u00a0Reich, dans l\u2019espoir de voir la France se m\u00e9nager une place dans l\u2019horizon d\u2019une Europe allemande.<\/p>\n

Henry Rousso retrace l\u2019\u00e9volution de cette dictature en s\u2019appuyant sur une historiographie qui a enti\u00e8rement renouvel\u00e9 le sujet depuis une quinzaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Henry Rousso est directeur de recherches (CNRS) \u00e0 l\u2019Institut d\u2019histoire du temps pr\u00e9sent, qu\u2019il a dirig\u00e9 de 1994 \u00e0 2005.
