The\u00a0Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI)\u00a0invites applications for its fellowships for the academic year 2020\/2021.<\/p>\n
The VWI is an academic institution dedicated to the research and documentation of antisemitism, racism, nationalism and the Holocaust. Conceived and established during Simon Wiesenthal\u2019s lifetime, the VWI receives funding from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, the Federal Chancellery as well as the City of Vienna. Research at the institute focuses on the Holocaust in its European context, including its antecedents and its aftermath.<\/p>\n
Research projects are to focus on a topic relevant to the research interests of the\u00a0VWI. Within this parameter, applicants are free to choose their own topic, approach and methodology. Fellows will have access to the archives of the institute. It is expected that fellows will make use of relevant resources from the collection in their research projects. Research results will be the subject of formal fellows\u2019 discussions and will be presented to the wider public at regular intervals.<\/p>\n
Funding is available for<\/p>\n
to work at the institute for a duration of between six and eleven months. Experience tells that residences between nine and eleven months are the most productive for facilitating the research of the fellows at the\u00a0VWI.<\/p>\n
Senior fellowships will be awarded to qualified scholars who have completed their PhDs, have authored exceptional academic publications and have been working at a university or academic institution for several years.<\/p>\n
Research fellowships will be awarded to scholars who have completed their PhDs and have published works in their research field.<\/p>\n
Junior fellowships will be awarded to PhD-candidates.<\/p>\n
With its fellowships, the\u00a0VWI\u00a0seeks to encourage communication and academic exchange among the fellows, providing an additional benefit beyond their research work. The fellows are expected to further the institute’s academic work and provide each other with advice and support in their research projects. Fellows must be regularly present at the\u00a0VWI.<\/p>\n
Fellows will be selected by the International Academic Advisory Board of the VWI.<\/p>\n

Schwerpunkt der Forschungsarbeit ist der Holocaust in seinem europ\u00e4ischen Zusammenhang, einschlie\u00dflich seiner Vor- und seiner Nachgeschichte.<\/p>\n Eingereichte Projekte behandeln die Forschungsthematik des\u00a0VWI; Fragestellung, Verfahren und Methoden stehen frei. Die Best\u00e4nde des institutseigenen Archivs stehen den Fellows zur Verf\u00fcgung. Ihre Einbeziehung in die Forschungsarbeit ist erw\u00fcnscht. Ergebnisse werden im Kreis der Fellows diskutiert und in regelm\u00e4\u00dfigen Abst\u00e4nden einem gr\u00f6\u00dferen Publikum pr\u00e4sentiert.<\/p>\n Gef\u00f6rdert werden<\/p>\n f\u00fcr einen Zeitraum zwischen mindestens sechs und maximal elf Monaten. Erfahrungsgem\u00e4\u00df sind Aufenthalte zwischen neun und elf Monaten f\u00fcr die wissenschaftliche Arbeit der Fellows am ergiebigsten.<\/p>\n Als Senior Fellows werden qualifizierte, promovierte Forscherinnen und Forscher gef\u00f6rdert, die sowohl schon herausragende wissenschaftliche Publikationen vorgelegt haben als auch im universit\u00e4ren oder wissenschaftlich-institutionellen Bereich \u00fcber langj\u00e4hrige Erfahrungen verf\u00fcgen.<\/p>\n Als Research Fellows werden promovierte Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler mit Publikationen in ihrem Forschungsfeld gef\u00f6rdert.<\/p>\n Im Rahmen des Junior Fellowship-Programms werden Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden gef\u00f6rdert.<\/p>\n Ziel des Aufenthaltes am\u00a0VWI\u00a0ist \u00fcber die Forschungst\u00e4tigkeit hinausgehend die Kommunikation und wissenschaftliche Interaktion mit den anderen Fellows am Institut.\u00a0Es wird erwartet, dass Fellows die wissenschaftliche Arbeit des Instituts f\u00f6rdern und sich gegenseitig bei ihren Forschungsvorhaben beratend unterst\u00fctzen.
