Isak Samokovlija wurde von einem Zeitgenossen als jugoslawischer Tschechow bezeichnet: Wie der gro\u00dfe russische Meister war auch Samokovlija Arzt; wie Tschechow bringt er seinen Lesern auf besondere Weise das Innenleben seiner Figuren nahe \u2013 und alle Kr\u00e4fte, die sich in deren Leben einmischen. Dazu geh\u00f6ren neben dem Zufall manchmal auch historische Ereignisse, Erinnerungen oder Traumata, die das Umfeld der Helden pr\u00e4gen. Wie in der titelgebenden Erz\u00e4hlung Der Jude, der am Sabbat nicht betet. Oder eine Schuld wie in Von Fr\u00fchling zu Fr\u00fchling. Die acht Erz\u00e4hlungen stammen aus dem 1975 auf Deutsch erschienenen Band Die rote Dahlie. Die gleichnamige Geschichte ist \u00fcbrigens ebenfalls Teil der Auswahl. In seinem Werk versuchte Samokovlija, die untergehende Welt des sephardischen Judentums in Bosnien zu konservieren.<\/p>\n
