These were mostly the territory of the Ottoman vilayet (province) Kosovo, extended to include parts of vilayets Monastir (Bitola) and Selanik (Thessaloniki).

This paper narrows investigation on the roots of Old Serbia discourse in the 19th century European cartography and contemporary geographical knowledge of the Balkans. This period is deliberately chosen, as it parallels the period of the Ottoman Empire crisis and growing interest in the region by the European powers, paired with the rising national sentiments and the Balkan states’ ideologies of the same period. The geographical knowledge of the Balkan region grew constantly during this time, particularly through the travels and works of geographers and cartographers based in Austrian and German lands. Therefore, it is not by chance that first official usage of the term Old Serbia was in the map produced in 1845 by the Serbian government.

Contrary to the most of contemporary historiography on this topic, this analysis questions the genesis of the term Old Serbia itself, and takes into account both the foreign influences and the ideology of the Serbian state, interested in territory gains to the south, as well as the collective memory about the medieval Serbian realm.

https://www.ios-regensburg.de/aktuelles/details/mapping-the-old-serbia-in-european-cartography-knowledge-ideology-collective-memory/period/2018/june.html

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[3

post-10497","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-novosti
CALL FOR CHAPTERS: YUGOSLAV WOMEN HISTORIANS: GENDER, KNOWLEDGE, AND PROFESSION IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
Type: Edited Volume Language: English Publisher: Institute for Recent History of Serbia Editors: Dr. Nataša Milićević, Senior Research Associate, Institute for Recent History of Serbia Prof. Dr. Michael Antolović, Faculty of Education in Sombor, University of Novi Sad Contact: jugoslovenske.istoricarke@yahoo.com Timeline: October 15, 2026: Abstract submission deadline June 30, 2027:…
https://i0.wp.com/historiografija.hr/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CPF-Gender.png?fit=1200%2C460&ssl=1&resize=350%2C200
https://i0.wp.com/historiografija.hr/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CPF-Gender.png?fit=1200%2C460&ssl=1&resize=350%2C200 1x, https://i0.wp.com/historiografija.hr/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CPF-Gender.png?fit=1200%2C460&ssl=1&resize=525%2C300 1.5x, https://i0.wp.com/historiografija.hr/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CPF-Gender.png?fit=1200%2C460&ssl=1&resize=700%2C400 2x, https://i0.wp.com/historiografija.hr/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CPF-Gender.png?fit=1200%2C460&ssl=1&resize=1050%2C600 3x
Bogdan Denić: Kaljenje identiteta – autobiografija i priča o demokratskoj ljevici u dvije države (SNV i Sandorf)
sudjeluju: Marijana Stojčić, Branka Šesto moderira: Aneta Vladimirov Knjiga Kaljenje identiteta: Autobiografija i priča o demokratskoj ljevici u dvije države autora Bogdana Denića (1929. – 2016.) svjedoči o životu oblikovanom na raskršću zemalja, jezika i ideologija.
